Woodville Alliance
Manik Gadre – Woodville Alliance, TAFE NSW
Woodville Alliance operates in South-Western Sydney, a highly culturally and linguistically diverse community, also rated as the second lowest socio-economic status in Greater Sydney. At Woodville, Manik works with families who are new arrivals, refugees and from similar backgrounds. Manik’s work includes helping parents and families navigate parenting in a foreign country, while adjusting to life, often with limited formal and informal support systems.
Manik is an early childhood teacher with qualifications in special education. She has extensive experience of working in trans-disciplinary teams to support children with disabilities and delays. This encouraged her to work with families who have experienced trauma, through TEI and FACS funded programs, as parental trauma impacts children’s development. Manik is passionate about implementing pre-dominantly Anglo-Western child development theories and parenting programs in culturally sensitive ways, to meet the aspirations and constraints of the families.
Our innovative outreach approach for engaging families with young children during COVID-19 health restrictions in NSW was featured in ARACY news bulletin.
Manik is also an academic at TAFE NSW and encourages her students to ponder over the true nature of inclusiveness and critically analyse the constrains faced by families at various intersectionality.
