Sue Smith

Sue Smith is a PhD candidate at the University of New England, NSW, Australia. Sue’s research interests include: the role of homemaking in Australia with regards to the economic, social, cultural, and political perceptions and evaluations of the work; the social justice and equity issue regarding the unpaid status of homemaking work; economic security for women and the problem of the growing number of older women who are experiencing or vulnerable to poverty and homelessness in Australia today. Her PhD thesis research investigates the life-course experiences of middle-to-older aged Australian women who have worked as full-time homemakers for the predominant part of their adult lives. It aims to inform discourses and decision-making processes regarding the broader issue of the growing number of middle-to-older aged women who suffer poor financial status in Australia today. Sue has a Bachelor of Arts degree with First Class Honours in Political and International Studies from the University of New England.
